Prior to the introduction of dental implants, patients who were missing numerous teeth were forced to
endure the problems associated with removable dental appliances. Today, implant-retained restorations
have become an integral part of dental treatment planning. The overwhelming success of this treatment
had led to implant restorations being routinely utilized to successfully replace missing teeth.
Immediate loading of dental implants is when a temporary crown can be placed on the
implant the same day as the implant surgery. This option is available when there is sufficient bone
density that is determined at the time of surgery. If the bone density is not sufficient for immediate
loading, a temporary removable flipper will be used for aesthetic purposes. Dr. Logue will determine
the healing period required, usually six to twelve weeks, prior to placement of the final implant-supported
restoration.
Dr. Logue's goal is to provide you with the treatment and healing periods that will give you
the best prognosis and not risk implant loss. This is decided on an individual basis taking into account
bone density, bone quantity, biting forces, and the type of the final restoration that will be used.
